What to pack in Hospital bag?

This is a million dollar question for any mom-to-be!! And the tension just builds up as the due date nears. People like me, who want to take things as they come, will not plan and make a list in advance and at the sametime have a nagging fear at the back of mind, that we might miss out something when we do it in the last minute. So here is the one, which I had prepared last November - almost a week before Chittu was born. This has inputs from many of my friends (Sorry folks! I know I had tortured you to the core :))and is the latest as of now. Posting it here (not in any order) so that someone could benefit out of it!!

1. Garbarakshambigai Oil (If you have belief)
2. Medical Records including prescription & scan (Historical) and Medicines
3. Office ID Card (original & photocopy) and Reimbursement form if you are going for Cashless option
4. Flask & Waterbottle - 2 Nos each
5. Small size eversilver cup, glass & spoon - sterilized & packed in a zip lock. This is for the baby & to be used in case of emergency only. In case there is a latching problem & you dont want to use any kind of shield, this can be used for feeding the baby. But 99.99% will come back home unused :)
6. Big size eversilver cup, glass & spoon - 2 sets (For self & attender)
7. Feeding nightie (go for ones with vertical / diagonal zips) & Innerwear - 2 sets minimum
8. Sanitary napkins - 2 packets (Belted ones are preferred)
9. 1 set of clothes to wear on your way back home
10. Few sets of unisex clothes for the baby (Jablas, night suits, onesies) - Have used ones handy if you are going to follow the tradition
11. Cloth nappies - 15 to 20. You can buy readymade ones from the shop. But for the first few days, I would suggest to cut a cotton dhoti without jari into a number of square cloths and stitch the corners. This is because, baby would pass meconium for the first few days. It is impossible to remove those stains and you may have to dispose that nappy off. If you are going to use diapers this can be ignored
12. Attender Clothes - 2 sets minimum
13. Soft Turkish towels & Old sarees - 2 sets to wrap the baby & make it feel secure
14. Toothbrush, Toothpaste, Bathing & Washing soap, Oil, Comb, Bindi, Powder - for self & attender
15. Hand sanitizer (But mostly hospitals will also provide this)
16. Mug
17. Lip Balm & Moisturizer
18. Bathroom slippers
19. Vim bar & Scotch Brite
20. Dettol
21. Sugar & Mother's Horlicks
22. Mobile & Charger of self & Attender
23. Socks - 2 pairs
24. Bedsheets - 2 Nos (In winter, the bedsheet given by the hospital won't suffice. So, it is better to carry additional ones for self & attender)
25. A box to keep the bangles & other jewellery that you remove
26. Wet wipes

Things (to be bought / identified) for the baby

I did not buy any of the below mentioned items & pack in the hospital bag. Rather, me & S (my hubby) went to a baby shop and got all these identified. The day after Chittu was born, S went to that shop & bought all these. Only later, I got to know that few shops have an option of delivery after delivery. All that we have to do is identify & pay an advance. Once the baby is born, they are just a phone call away!!

1. Clothes
2. Booties & Mittens
3. Rubbersheet / Quick Dry
4. Blanket
5. Mosquito Net
6. Wrap towel
7. Pampers New baby Imported (Size 1 or 2 depends on the weight of the baby)
8. Cap

Feel free to give your inputs to enhance the list

Note: Chittu was born in Chennai. So if you are in other state / country, there could be some additions or deletions to this list. Please post them as comments!
